I think that one of the things missing from the women’s movement are female experts speaking to the media.

If you are at a stage of your career where you would like to share your experiences and knowledge with a wider audience, I would love for you to be a part of this group.

Some of you just gulped and that small inner voice said “but I’m not an expert in anything” (even though you have been in your career for 20 years or have accomplished some cool things in your business).

We are gathering a group of women to normalize the experience of sharing your knowledge with the media and to work through “imposter syndrome” together.

Something you might not know about me…

In the last year, I have won an international award for women in tech, released a book, been featured on the national show “The Social”, had a monthly segment on CTV Morning Live, and been on numerous panels and speaking gigs. Although I sometimes charge for speaking, I didn’t make money doing the other things.

I don’t do these activities for the “Look at Me, It’s The Katrina Show”.   Yes, I admit to the fear and anxiety, but I push through that fear.  Why?  Because it’s worth it! It’s important to me to show the public that women work in tech and are experts in their fields! 

Yes, there are personal benefits.  Professionally,  I find it easier to get funding for my initiatives and to get instant credibility with future clients. When I participate in the media or speak to a crowd, people automatically think I’m trustworthy. When I have an idea, people will get behind it (instead of the constant resistance that I used to have when I was just starting out as an entrepreneur). It’s helped my business considerably.

Most importantly, when I do my work LOUDLY and share ideas with the media, I am inspiring young women into careers in tech, which is one of my personal “whys”. Some of the big names in the Women in Tech scene have told me that I inspired them to start their tech companies. That feels like a win for me. If I was quietly working in an office, none of that would have happened.

I didn’t learn how to do all of these activities by myself. I had many wonderful mentors and contractors who showed me the steps to get my name out there. Now I’d like to show you. I want you to have the opportunity to make a real impact in your industry and in the public.

From September 2019 - February 2020, I will be hosting a monthly training sessions for 10 high-achieving women that want to share their knowledge more widely. The deadline to confirm your participation is September 6, 2019.

Women who are:

• at a certain stage of their career who have an established area of expertise

• ready to share their expertise widely

• willing to celebrate (and when appropriate share) the success of the other women in the group

The Feel Goods:

• A true investment in yourself and your career

• A group of strong women who are dedicated to your success (and can help you get over imposter syndrome)

• A far deeper understanding of your current and desired professional image

• Deadlines… so that these activities don’t keep sliding to the bottom of your to-do list

If you commit to the process, by the end of six months, you will have:

• A personal website

• A television appearance

• An article in a national newsletter or blog

• Experience speaking in front of a crowd

• NOTHING - show up as yourself. We are going to walk you through this process - this is a time to focus on yourself and your career. There will be homework along the way, but it should be fun. :)

COURSE SUMMARY

• SPEAKER: What does your body language say to others?

• SPEAKER: How fashion impacts your personal brand

• SPEAKER: Your personal pitch. What makes you unique?

• PRACTICE TIME

• HOMEWORK: Find your perfect outfit and refine your pitch

• SHOW AND TELL: Each woman will swagger into our meeting wearing their official “look” and introducing themselves using their new pitch

• PHOTOGRAPHER: Official head shots will be taken

• SPEAKER: How to pitch the media

• PRACTICE TIME: write email pitches and get feedback

• HOMEWORK: Schedule a time for Facebook Live with Katrina to practice your live-video interview skills. Buy a website domain name (like KatrinaGerman.com) from GoDaddy.com and have it ready for next session. Send your pitch to your ideal television stations.

• LIVE DEMONSTRATION: Building a one-page Squarespace website

• TIME TO CREATE and LAUNCH THE SITE with Katrina and helpers. (Please note there is monthly fee of $25 USD to maintain the site that is paid to Squarespace). We will use information from your pitches and the photos from the photographer to build the site.

• HOMEWORK: Choose your ideal blog, magazine or newspaper to appear in.

• SPEAKER: Why we need more women to write opinions for newspapers and blogs

• BRAINSTORM: timely topics for you to pitch to your ideal blog, magazine or newspaper

• RESEARCH: Find the correct contact information for the publication

• HOMEWORK: Pitch your ideal publication. Think about a 5 minute presentation that you think will appeal to an audience.

• SPEAKER: The power of story to share your knowledge

• Practice Time: Write an outline of your speech

• (If time): Share with the group for feedback

• HOMEWORK: Work with Katrina to refine presentation

• The public reveal! We will invite family and friends to view our websites, media appearances and print publications.

• Each woman will have the opportunity to share their 5 minute speech with the group.

A Few Questions….

* I have travel/ work plans during one of the sessions. What happens if I have to miss a module?

We will record the session and share it with you, although, of course, we would prefer for you to attend in real life.

* Are the media spots guaranteed?

Unfortunately, there are parts of this process that are out of my control (I can't MAKE your ideal media stations/ newsletters interview you, although that would be nice) :). However, we are going to put all of the right processes and pitches in place so that you have the best chance of being profiled.
