Changing the Trajectory of the Internet: My Conversation on The Empower Women Show

I recently had the opportunity to join Jayne Trimble on The Empower Women Show for a conversation about technology, leadership, and the responsibility we all share in shaping the digital world.

The episode explores something I think about every day: how we ensure the Internet—and the technologies built on top of it—work for humans, not the other way around.

As technology accelerates, the decisions we make today about AI, ethics, and inclusion will define the future of our digital society.

Why Representation in Tech Matters

One of the first topics we discussed was the ongoing gender gap in technology entrepreneurship.

Today, only about 6% of tech founders are women, which means the tools and platforms shaping our world are often designed without diverse perspectives at the table.

During the conversation, I shared why increasing representation is not just about fairness—it’s about building better technology.

“If we want technology that works for everyone, we need everyone involved in building it.”

When more voices contribute to innovation, we create systems that are more inclusive, thoughtful, and responsive to real human needs.

Technology Is Moving Faster Than Trust

Another theme of the interview was the growing trust gap in the digital world.

Artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms are evolving rapidly. But trust in technology is struggling to keep pace.

That’s one of the reasons I founded Ethical Digital and launched Ethical Language Management—to help organizations think more intentionally about the technologies they deploy.

“Technology itself isn’t good or bad. The real question is how humans decide to use it.”

Businesses, governments, and innovators all play a role in ensuring technology is deployed responsibly.

Building Technology With Intention

The conversation also explored the responsibility that entrepreneurs and leaders carry when launching new tools and platforms.

Too often, innovation focuses on speed—building the next big product before asking deeper questions about impact.

But technology is now deeply embedded in how we communicate, learn, work, and govern.

“We’re building the infrastructure of the future Internet right now. The choices we make today will shape the digital world for decades.”

That means leaders need to think about ethics, transparency, and human well-being alongside growth and innovation.

A Future Worth Building

I’m optimistic about what technology can do.

AI, automation, and digital platforms have enormous potential to solve problems, improve communication, and expand access to knowledge.

But achieving that future requires intentional leadership.

We need more entrepreneurs who ask not only what can we build? but also what should we build?

And we need more conversations like the one Jayne creates on The Empower Women Show—spaces where we can openly discuss how technology is shaping our lives and how we can guide it responsibly.

I’m grateful to Jayne and the team for creating that space and for inviting me to share the work we’re doing to help build a more ethical, human-centred digital world.
